The Motlow Bucks stormed back from a 16-point first half deficit and beat the Jackson State Green Jays 118-83 Friday in the play-in round of the TCCAA/Region VII Tournament in Harriman, TN.
Motlow, the No. 7 seed in the tournament, advances to the quarterfinals, where it will face the No. 2 seed, Chattanooga State. The Bucks and Tigers will square off Sunday at 3 p.m. CST.
With 11:32 minutes remaining in the half, Motlow trailed 29-13. Mi'Quan Tucker hit a pair of 3-pointers and had a slam dunk, Raymon Adams hit a 3-pointer, and Kane Reed had a pair of threes, and suddenly the Bucks had cut the lead to 38-34 with 7:12 left in the half.
Adams scored to pull Motlow within two and Reed hit his third 3-pointer to keep the Bucks close. Motlow finally grabbed the lead with 4:31 left in the half on a Lawrence Montgomery bucket. The Bucks never trailed again as Tucker hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Motlow a 64-51 lead at intermission.
Motlow shot 54.8 percent from the field and hit 19-38 three-point shots. The Bucks won the rebounding battled 48-28 and forced the Green Jays into 18 turnovers.
Tucker scored 20 points on 4-7 three-pointers and added four rebounds. Adams scored 14 points and added four rebounds and three assists. Debron Russell had 12 points and six rebounds, and Reed scored 11 with a pair of rebounds.
Isaiah Curry and Dylan Wade each scored 10 for Motlow. Montgomery had 10 rebounds to lead the Bucks and Kolbe Gray dished out five assists.
